Susanne Baden from Germany, has just
completed the first, of we hope many, JV Big Cat
Photographic Safaris.

which she shares with you.
Susanne
spent 6 days at Londolozi in her own private
vehicle, with James Kydd as her guide.
After a game drive in the morning of
her last day, she transferred via Federal Air to
Oliver Tambo International and then via SA Link to
Bloemfontein.
She was at Tiger Canyons for dinner.
During her time at Londolozi, she
took about 3 800 photos:
She captured
4 of the Mapogo male lion coalition and the Sparta
Pride with 3 females and 9 cups. Susanne
photographed no less than 7 leopard during her stay
at Londolozi. The wild dog
den was active and Susanne took pictures of the wild
dogs hunting and regurgitating meat to the cups.
One night James and Susanne
watched more than 20 hyenas devour a wildebeest.
At Tiger Canyons with JV, Susanne
was lucky enough to photograph Shadow and Seatao
swimming and playing in the river. This was her
first introduction to these magnificent water cats.
Susanne got her first introduction to Savannah, who
in true lion style, was coursing the wildebeest for
Tiger Boy and Shy Boy, who were waiting in ambush.
The next morning four tigers and
Savannah were on a wildebeest kill. The icy morning
provided steam from the carcass and from the tigers
mouths, making for some unique shots.
Susanne witnessed first hand the
athletic ability of tigers when she photographed
Julie 30 feet up in a tree.
On her last day, after a rugged walk
through the Paaiskloof Canyon, JV, Sunette and
Susanne had breakfast overlooking the magnificent
canyon.
Susanne revealed that on top of the
3800 photos at Londolozi, she had shot another 4000
photos at Tiger Canyons.
Susanne used Canon EOS 1D Mark III
and EOS 30D with the following EF 100-400 1:4.5-5.6
L IS; EF 24-70 1:2.8 L USM lenses.
